A publication from the Fast Guide series of the Japanese publisher Komakai. It is a modeling handbook focused on a single car, the Porsche 911 SC RS rally machine. It is not a kit or an accessory to go in a box, but a standalone title a modeler reaches for at the moment of working out the form of one particular racing machine.
The Porsche 911 SC RS was created in 1984 as a homologation special for Group B, and only a small series of them was built. Against the production 911 it received a lightened body, reworked suspension and a more sharply tuned air-cooled flat-six. It stayed with rear-wheel drive at a time when its rivals were moving to four-wheel drive, so it excelled on fast asphalt stages rather than in deep terrain. The British team Prodrive, newly founded at the time, took part in preparing the cars, and it was its first big project. Henri Toivonen took the European rally championship title with this Porsche, and crews in the Middle East added further successes.
Rally 911s are among the frequently built subjects, and the individual cars differ in details of the body and in interior equipment. The Fast Guide series is cut exactly for this brief: it keeps to one type and its form in racing use, so you do not have to work your way through the general history of the brand.
