F40 Red is a red shade from the Number 5 brand. The paints in this range carry the names of automotive paints and are aimed mainly at the bodywork of car models, sports and racing alike. It will serve just as well on any part that is to carry a rich red.
Stir the jar thoroughly before use so that the pigment is evenly distributed. The paint can be applied with an airbrush as well as a brush; the thinning ratio and the recommended thinner are given in the manufacturer's instructions. Work in thin coats and let the surface flash off between them; a thin coat keeps the panel edges crisp, whereas a heavy pass rounds them off and takes considerably longer to dry.
The body shell is the largest continuous surface on a model, so there is no point in rushing it. Before spraying, wash and degrease the model, sand the filled areas smooth and work in a dust-free space, because every speck shows on gloss red. If the car is to have a stripe or a two-color split, lay the masking tape down only on a fully hardened coat and press its edge down with a fingernail so that the paint cannot creep underneath.
