The T2 Transporter Orange shade belongs to the colors named after a particular subject. That subject is the Volkswagen Transporter of the second generation, the vehicle on which a deep orange became one of the marks of a whole decade.
The Transporter of the second generation was built from 1967 and replaced the original version with a split windshield by a one-piece curved window. At the rear worked an air-cooled flat engine, and the body existed as a panel van, a minibus, a flatbed and a camper conversion. In Germany this generation was built until the end of the 1970s and overseas for longer still. It was precisely in the 1970s that bold warm tones appeared in the paint range, and orange was among the most conspicuous of them. On a model it shows in that the extensive flat flanks have nothing to break up a reflection, so the coat of paint has to be smooth over the whole area.
It will be appreciated by those who build civilian machinery and want to hit the color mood of the period rather than merely mix anything orange. It also works well in scenes where a vehicle stands next to vehicles in muted tones and is meant to be the natural color center of the scene.
