A shade from the Number Five range named after the color the first Volkswagen Golf GTI was sold in. It is a deep signal red with a warm undertone, that is the tone that appeared most often on European hatchbacks of the second half of the 1970s.
The Golf GTI was presented in 1976 as the hot version of the first Golf, whose body was drawn by Giorgetto Giugiaro. A fuel-injected gasoline four-cylinder, low weight and short gearing made it the car that founded the whole class of hot hatchbacks and forced the competition to respond. Its marks of recognition were a red surround around the radiator grille, lettering written in red on the grille and black fender flares. It is precisely the contrast of this red with black plastic that makes a model of the first GTI what it should be, and the car kept the same recipe into the second generation.
The checked seat fabric and the shift knob in the shape of a golf ball belonged to the equipment by which the hot version set itself apart from the civilian form. With a model of the Golf GTI it pays to lay out the red surface together with the black fender flares, because the two colors meet on the car along a long horizontal edge and their division is most visible from the side.
