190E Silver is a silver shade from the Number Five modeling line. It is not a universal silver: the name aims at a particular car, the compact Mercedes 190E of the W201 series in the form it appeared in on German circuits of the second half of the 1980s.
The 2.3-16 and the later 2.5-16 Evolution versions came about for touring car homologation. From 1988 AMG fielded them in the German championship and the cars received a silver body, because the brand has claimed silver since the interwar era of the Silver Arrows. A small sedan with short overhangs and an angular line looks different in silver than the rounded prototypes of the period: the light breaks on the sharp edges of the flared fenders and emphasizes them. Colored sponsor graphics then ran across this surface, so the silver worked as the ground of the whole finish.
It will be reached for by builders of road and racing car models who prefer a ready named tone to mixing one of their own. The W201 series was the brand's first compact class and arrived in 1982 with a multi-link rear axle. In the line it makes a pair with the black variant of the same car, so a contrasting combination of one body can be put together from them.
