Z4 M40i Blue is a blue shade from the Number 5 brand. The name refers to the BMW Z4 roadster in the M40i version, since the whole range carries designations taken from the paints of particular cars. The shade is therefore aimed above all at the bodywork of car models, but it can serve anywhere else blue is called for.
Stir the contents of the jar thoroughly before use. The pigment settles at the bottom and unstirred paint dries to a different tone than it should. Apply several thin coats and let the surface flash off between them. One heavy coat floods the fine line work of the panel gaps, gathers into ridges on the edges and takes considerably longer to dry. The thinning ratio and the recommended thinner are given in the manufacturer's instructions; a thinner from another range can curdle the paint into grains.
The body shell is the largest continuous surface on the whole model and everything left under the paint shows on it. Wash and degrease the model before painting, then, sand the filled areas and let a base coat dry. That base unifies plastic of different colors with the filler and reveals flaws before you bury them under the top shade. A blue body looks better with a higher gloss, so the finished coat is often sealed with clear varnish, especially when markings are going on the model.
