United Colors Green is a green matching the tone of the racing cars on which the sponsorship of the United Colors of Benetton clothing brand appeared.
Responsibility details are not available.
A green from the basic Number Five palette tied to the tone of the cars that carried the sponsorship of the United Colors of Benetton clothing company. It is therefore not the green of one maker of cars but the color of a trade mark, which appeared in Formula 1 first on other people's single-seaters and only then on its own.
The Italian clothing firm entered the top category in the 1980s as a sponsor and its many-colored scheme gradually appeared on the cars of several different stables. The green belonged among its load-bearing components and together with the other colors it made the single-seaters the most colorful cars of the starting field of the day. The firm later took over the whole team and ran under its own name for the rest of the 1980s and the whole of the 1990s. Anyone who builds single-seaters of this era will meet the green of this scheme sooner or later.
Builders of formula cars who are after liveries demanding in color and need to have every component of a scheme right will head for it. Multi-color schemes forgive a mistake in a shade even less than single-color bodies, because an incorrect tone is immediately compared with the neighboring stripe.
