1:100 Hotchkiss H39 with the SA 18 gun is a resin kit of the French light tank in its earlier armament form with the short barrel.
Responsibility details are not available.
The French light tank in the form the vehicles carried when they were delivered in 1939. The kit from Zebrano is cast in resin and in 1:100 scale it belongs among the items that can be built in a single afternoon and still hold up in a display case.
Officially this was the updated version of an older type from 1935. The most important change was a more powerful engine of around a hundred and twenty horsepower, because of which the rear end rose and the vehicle was given a markedly flatter upper surface over the engine compartment. Deliveries began in March 1939 and the machines from the first part of production kept the short 37 mm gun, a weapon with weak armor-piercing effect. Only in 1940 did a longer barrel start to be fitted in the turrets. It is precisely by the length of the barrel that the two forms of the vehicle are most easily told apart, because otherwise they look indistinguishable. Both the hull and the turret were castings and the crew consisted of two men.
French tracked vehicles carried multicolored camouflage with dark dividing stripes. In 1:100 scale it does not pay to imitate it exactly; simplify the stripes and keep them as narrow as possible, otherwise the model will look optically smaller. The rounded cast shapes come out well if you go over them with a dry brush in a lighter tone after the primer. The gaps between the turret and the hull only need accentuating with a very thin dark paint applied with the tip of a brush.
It heads to the customer as an unassembled kit without paint; putting it together and painting it are part of the fun.
