The AN/APS-4 radar pod in 1:32 scale from Quinta Studio is a standalone accessory for hanging under the wing of models from the period of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory suitable according to the name for any kit of the matching scale, because the pod is only hung under the wing and calls for no modification of the internal structure. It is not a model of an aircraft, nor a complete weapons set, but a single yet prominent piece of equipment that turns a standard machine into its night or patrol version.
The AN/APS-4 was a light American airborne radar that, instead of being built into the fuselage, was built into an aerodynamic pod and hung on a wing pylon. Thanks to that it could be added even to aircraft that had not originally been designed for it. It was used by the night fighter and patrol machines of the US Navy, and in British service it was known under the ASH code name. It was precisely this set that opened the way for carrier units to effective night operations and operations in poor visibility over the sea.
First seat the pod dry and check its lengthwise alignment against the axis of the fuselage: a pod set at an angle is instantly apparent when seen from the front. Level the mating surface of the pylon and strengthen the joint with a short pin of wire, because the glued area alone tends to be small. In terms of color the pod usually blends with the surrounding wing surface, so paint it together with the model and set it apart only by lightly accentuating the panel lines.
