The set

The set contains replacement wheels for a model of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport aircraft in 1:72 scale. The qualifier mid sets the variant apart within the supplier's range, so compare the shape of the wheels with the form of the machine you are building before buying.

What replacement wheels are good for

The landing gear is seen close up on a finished model and the wheels belong to the parts a visitor at a show notices first. Accessory wheels are therefore bought where a modeler wants finer definition of the tread and a more cleanly turned hub than the part from the kit carries. The swap is quick at the same time and does not interfere with the build of the fuselage or the wing.

Building and painting tips

• Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder carefully so that the circular outline stays intact.
• Use cyanoacrylate for gluing; cement for polystyrene may not hold on accessory parts.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint takes poorly to the smooth surface.
• Paint the hub and the tire separately before you join the wheel to the landing gear leg.
• If the wheels are shaped with a flat spot from the weight of the aircraft, turn them with the flat area toward the ground.

Working with accessory parts calls for no special tools; a sharp blade, abrasive paper and cyanoacrylate are enough.
