The Czech brand HGW has long specialized in cockpit equipment, and this set brings a pilot's seat harness for the Albatros D.III Oeffag in the large 1:24 scale. In the open cockpit of a biplane the seat with its harness is practically the centerpiece of the whole model, so an investment in a faithful rendering pays off more than anywhere else on the build.
The Albatros D.III Oeffag was the licensed Austro-Hungarian version of the German fighter, which the Oeffag works improved step by step: it was given more powerful Austro-Daimler engines and a strengthened wing structure, which removed the weakness of the original design. The machines of series 53, 153 and 253 formed the backbone of the Austro-Hungarian air service, and after the war they also served in the Polish Air Force.
Shape the belts into naturally sagging curves so that they do not look stiff; let them hang loosely over the seat cushion as period photographs show. Pick the buckles out gently with a metal shade and unify the whole with a heavily thinned brown filter. Count on fitting them before the cockpit section is closed up and the upper wing is mounted. The large scale will take further small things in the cockpit as well, a map laid on the seat for instance.
