This set of the express fit line from the Art Scale brand serves to mask the glazing of an F-86D model. The qualifier one-sided means that the masking allows for the outer side of the clear parts. That is the variant for a build with a closed canopy, when there is not much of a view into the cockpit anyway, and at the same time the simpler way to get the frames into a sharp line. It is based on the dimensions of the Kitty Hawk kit.

The real subject

The F-86D was a single-seat interceptor for all-weather use. It differed from the classic Sabre in having a radar in the nose, because of which the intake is moved below an unusually high nose, and in an armament made up of unguided rockets in a retractable tray instead of cannons. The nickname Sabre Dog took hold precisely because of the shape of that nose.

Spraying tips

• First wash the glazing in lukewarm water and let it dry without wiping it with a cloth.
• Lay the mask on from the largest part to the smallest, so that you are not left with an empty spot.
• Before the color, lay down a thin covering coat of base, which will seal the micro-gaps along the edge.
• Hold the airbrush nozzle perpendicular; an angled spray creeps under the edge.
• Check the edges against the light once the mask is off; a small overrun can still be taken off with a wooden stick.
