The Art Scale double-sided mask for the P-39Q Airacobra, 1:48

A set of self-adhesive painting masks from the manufacturer Art Scale in 1:48 scale, of the express fit type (cut exactly to measure for the given model). The masks cover the cabin glazing as well as the wheels, so that you paint the canopy frames and the tires sharply and with no paint running over. The form is double-sided: it makes masking from the outer as well as the inner side of the glazing easier. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory that makes painting easier. The target kit is Arma Hobby.

The real subject

The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American fighter with an unusual layout: the engine was placed behind the pilot and the propeller was driven by a long shaft. The P-39Q version was one of the later production variants; the Soviet Air Force used it on a large scale.

Use

• Lift the masks off the sheet carefully and transfer them onto clean glazing or wheels
• Paint over them (best of all with an airbrush in thin coats)
• Once dry, take the masks off and you have sharp transitions
• It saves the laborious cutting of masking tape
