The kit captures the APP-66, a bus of raised mobility built on the chassis of the legendary GAZ-66 off-road truck. It is not a city bus but a vehicle for carrying people where the road ends. 1:43 is the classic car scale, so the finished model suits a cabinet among collector metal models and among other buses and commercial vehicles.
The GAZ-66 is among the best-known Soviet trucks: all-wheel drive, a cab over the engine and a reputation as a vehicle that gets almost anywhere. It was therefore logical to use its chassis for a bus body as well, one meant to carry work crews to remote sites in geology, forestry and construction. That is how the APP-66 came about, built in a small batch in the second half of the 1980s. The high-set body and the great ground clearance made it a vehicle that got through where an ordinary bus would never have set out. That also gives it a distinctive look, markedly different from the ordinary buses of the time.
Put the parts together dry first and check how the body seats on the frame, and only then glue with an adhesive suitable for the material they are made of. Mask the glazing before spraying. Over a primer, lay the top shade on with an airbrush in thin coats; a more matte surface suits off-road vehicles. The chassis, the fenders and the tires deserve dust and mud, because the real vehicle ran mainly away from made-up roads. The frames of the windows and the door will come out well after a dark wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
