A plastic kit of the light off-road vehicle in 1:43 scale from the Russian manufacturer Zvezda. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Scale 1:43 is the home of collector car models, so the finished vehicle fits easily by size into a display case among other cars of this size without taking up much room.
The UAZ-469 is a light off-road car with all-wheel drive, built at the Ulyanovsk automobile works from the beginning of the 1970s. In design it is a simple, sturdy vehicle with a ladder frame, rigid axles, leaf springs and an open or canvas-covered body. It was exactly the simplicity and the ease of repair that made it a widespread utility and liaison vehicle, which in various forms stayed in production for decades and was used in military and civil service in many countries.
In 1:43 scale the parts are small, so work with tweezers and a sharp knife and cut them off the sprues with nippers, not by twisting. Assemble and paint the chassis with the axles before you join it to the body. Glue with thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the joint and leaves no marks on visible surfaces. Apply a thin coat of filler before painting; on small models it is vital to keep the coats thin, or the engraved detail will disappear. A matte green-gray or khaki is suitable, completed with light emphasis of the engraving with a dark wash. Dose the dusty patina sparingly – on a small model it easily overpowers the shape of the vehicle. Fit the glazing at the very end and glue it with a cement intended for clear parts.
