The YPB-03 with a medium 0.3 mm track

A tungsten steel tip with a working width of 0.3 mm from the WING series. Compared with the finest sizes it makes a noticeably more prominent groove, which stays clearly visible even under a primer coat and several covering layers. It is a width reached for where the division is to be seen at first glance and not only from close up.

Where a prominent groove is useful

It comes into its own on models of ground vehicles, where the gaps between armor plates, access hatches and service covers really are wide, and equally in the large aircraft scales. When the division is too fine, it disappears completely after weathering; a wider track, on the other hand, holds the drawing even under a layer of pigment and after repeated polishing.

A procedure that has proved itself

• Mark the path out lightly in advance with a soft pencil.
• Make the first stroke almost without pressure, as a guide.
• Add the depth gradually and sweep the waste away as you go.
• Finish the ends of the grooves with one short stroke from the edge inward.
• Scribe symmetrical parts one after the other so that both sides come out the same.

Materials and clamping

It will work the usual modeling materials including hard resin and 3D-printed components. The mirror finish of the sides reduces friction, so the tool does not jam in the groove and can be guided at an even pace. The diameter of the shank is 3.175 mm and the holder is sold separately from the tip, as with the other sizes in the series.
