It is not an airplane kit, but an accessory with which the pylons of an already built model are fitted out. Alongside this set, the same manufacturer also offers a sister set with a fin assembly of a different version, so what decides the choice is precisely the designation of the tail part.
The AN-M66 was an American general-purpose aerial bomb of the 2000 lb weight class, used during the Second World War and in the postwar period. It was carried by the heavier bombers and attack aircraft of the US Air Force and the US Navy. The tail part was supplied in several versions: a sturdier box-fin assembly and an aerodynamically cleaner conical assembly. On a model this difference is clearly apparent and determines which period and which configuration of machine the bomb suits.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and remove the casting blocks with a saw or a cutting disc; when sanding resin, protect your breathing and sand wet. The tail part is slender, so handle it carefully and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting. A matte coat suits the body of the bomb, complemented by a fine picking out of the bands and seams; deal with transitions and scuffs rather sparingly, because in 1:48 scale a bomb is a small object and exaggerated weathering looks coarse on it. Check that the pylon on your model matches the weight class and that the bomb does not foul the landing gear or the flaps.
