The Kh-29 is a heavy Soviet air-to-ground guided missile, kept in the West under the name Kedge. It came into being to destroy targets that lighter ordnance is not enough for: bridges, shelters for aircraft, fortified structures and large vessels. The form with the letter L is guided semi-actively by laser. It therefore homes on the reflection of a laser beam with which an aircraft or an observer on the ground illuminates the target, and the illumination has to last until impact. The weight of the missile is around 660 kilograms and a substantial part of that is made up by the warhead, which makes the Kh-29 one of the heaviest missiles in its category. Its carriers were Soviet tactical and ground-attack aircraft.
Two pieces of the missile in 1:48 scale as stores under the wing or under the fuselage of a model. It will serve just as well in an armorers' scene, where the ordnance lies on a trolley next to an aircraft. Whether the package also contains pylons or decals is given in the maker's instructions.
The parts are not of polystyrene and ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on them; use cyanoacrylate glue. Cut excess material away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the remainder down carefully, so that the cylindrical shape of the body is preserved. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. When hanging them, watch that the axis of the missile stays parallel with the axis of the aircraft and that both pieces hang the same; stores hung crooked are more visible on a finished model than any fine detail. Fit the fins and the stabilizing surfaces to a single template, so that they all have the same angle.
For builders of Soviet and Russian combat aircraft who could use more believable stores than the kit offers, and for modelers who are building a scene with ground crew. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
