The A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat ground-attack aircraft built for the direct support of ground units. You will know it at first glance: a straight wing, a pair of engine nacelles high on the sides of the rear fuselage, twin vertical tail surfaces and a massive cannon around which the whole machine is built. The pilot sits in a titanium armor bathtub, because the machine is meant to work low down and within reach of fire from the ground. The C rendition is the modernized form with a reworked pilot's workplace.
The masks are cut from kabuki paper, that is from a thin paper with an adhesive layer. The precisely cut pieces only have to be lifted off the sheet and laid on the model. The BASIC label in the name sets the basic extent of the set, aimed at the areas that are to stay free of paint after spraying.
Apply the masks to a clean and degreased surface before spraying, never after it. Press the edges down carefully with a fingernail or a toothpick, so that the paint does not run under them; kabuki paper adapts well even to the slightly convex shape of glazing. Apply the paint in thin coats and preferably in two passes, because a heavy coat creates a ridge at the edge of the mask. Lift the mask off while the paint is not yet fully cured, pulling it at an angle back over itself, so that the edge stays crisp.
For modelers who are building the A-10C in 1:48 scale and want a clean transition between the glazing and the frame without lengthy trimming of tape. Paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
