About product

Resin wheels with masks 1:48 Douglas A-26B/C Invader, early version (Aires)

An accessory in 1:48 scale: resin wheels in the early form for a model of the Douglas A-26B/C, later designated the B-26B/C Invader, completed with masks for painting. It is neither a kit nor a model of the aircraft, but a replacement for the landing gear parts. The number of parts and the scope of the masks are stated on the box.

What the accessory solves and how the early version differs

The Invader saw long service and its wheels went through changes to the tread pattern as well as to the design of the hub. This set is cut for the early form; alongside it a late variant and variants with a different tread pattern are also available, so the choice goes by the period and the machine you are building. A resin casting has no parting seam in the middle of the tire and is usually modeled with the deformation from the weight of the aircraft, which does good service on a twin-engine bomber and attack machine with a high take-off weight. The masks supplied then ensure a crisp transition between the hub and the tire.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces wet with respiratory protection. First spray the whole wheel in the hub shade, and once that has cured stick the mask on and spray the tire over it; take the mask off soon after it has dried and at an obtuse angle. Glue the wheels with cyanoacrylate, with the flattened part of the tread downward and parallel to the ground. On a tricycle landing gear check that the model stands on all three points without rocking before the glue hardens.

Who the accessory is for

  • Builders of the Invader in 1:48 scale in its early form
  • Modelers who want wheels with no parting seam and with deformation
  • Anyone after a clean transition between the hub and the tire
  • Users with experience of resin and cyanoacrylate

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check the fit with your kit before buying.

FAQ

They differ in a design of wheel matching different periods of the aircraft's service. Go by the documentation for the machine you are building.

What the box states is what decides.

The machine was originally listed as the A-26 and later redesignated the B-26. It is the same type, not two different aircraft.

They cover the hub while the tire is sprayed, so that the transition between the hub and the rubber comes out crisp and even.
