The CMK 1:48 A-36 Apache / P-51 / P-51A Mustang Radiator is a resin radiator set for models of the early Mustangs in 1:48 scale. It deals with a detail that shows clearly from below on the finished model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cooling installation in the belly of the fuselage is a recognition feature of the Mustang and at the same time a place where injection-molded plastic runs into its limits. In a kit the inside of the duct is usually flat and the matrix only suggested. The resin set offers thin walls, a duct that looks open all the way through and a finely cast radiator, and it covers the early A-36 Apache, P-51 and P-51A versions.
Separate the castings from the casting blocks with a fine-toothed saw, not with nippers. Sand the surface after cutting and wash all the parts in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears. Then comes the most important step: dry-fitting. Setting the radiator in usually calls for removing some plastic from the fuselage and shaping the opening to match the resin part. Take material off little by little and keep checking that the fuselage halves still meet.
Spray the inside of the duct before you close it, because afterward you will not get in there. Use a primer, the interior shade over it, and add depth with a dark wash. Pick out the radiator matrix itself with a dark shade and a light dry brush so that the structure opens up. The underside of the fuselage around the outlet deserves discreet weathering, because in service the airflow left its traces there.
This is an accessory, not an aircraft kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
