An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Grumman A-6E Intruder carrier-based attack aircraft in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. The parts are molded in gray and clear plastic, and the box contains a finely rendered cockpit, metal landing gear, photo-etched parts and decals. It is an extensive kit with a high part count and one of the best renderings of the Intruder in this scale.
The A-6 Intruder was a two-seat carrier-based attack aircraft of the US Navy, designed for precise bombing in any weather, by day and by night. It was powered by a pair of turbojets and the crew consisted of a pilot and a bombardier-navigator seated side by side. The A-6E version was a markedly modernized variant with new avionics, a new radar and a target tracking system, which kept the machine combat-worthy into the 1990s. The Intruder carried extensive external stores and became famous for precise strikes deep behind enemy lines.
Paint and assemble the cockpit and the instrument panel before you close up the fuselage, because there is no access to them once it is glued. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic, and the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Mask the canopy glazing before spraying. Build and paint the external stores and the drop tanks separately and fit them at the very end. Lay down a primer before painting, spray the camouflage with an airbrush in thin coats and bring out the panel lines with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
