An add-on set from the Czech maker Eduard for a model of the Japanese Nakajima A6M2-N Rufe floatplane fighter in 1:48 scale. According to the name it contains cannon barrels and the machine guns in the cockpit area, produced by 3D printing technology. It is not a kit or a finished model but a replacement for the plastic parts from the box by a more accurate rendering. Printed barrels have the advantage over plastic parts that they are true to axis and have no mold parting line that would have to be laboriously sanded away.
The Nakajima A6M2-N is the floatplane version of the Japanese A6M2 Zero carrier fighter. The fuselage remained essentially unchanged, and a large central float on struts and two auxiliary ones under the wings were added. The machine was meant to provide fighter cover from the water where no runway was available. It essentially took over the armament of the parent type, which matters for the modeler, because it is exactly the barrels that are clearly noticeable on the surface.
The printed parts are fragile and are held on thin supports. Cut them off with a sharp scalpel or a fine modeling saw, and never break them off. Sand the traces of the supports down with fine abrasive paper and protect your airways while sanding. Before gluing, wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, as production residue would otherwise worsen the adhesion of the paint. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic does not work here. Fit the barrels only after the surrounding area has been sprayed, so that you do not have to mask them.
It is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
