This is a set of self-adhesive masks from the Art Scale brand for the kit of the carrier fighter Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero Type 21 from Academy in 1:48 scale. The masks are supplied pre-cut to shape, so there is no laborious cutting out of masking tape with a knife, and they are stuck straight onto the clear part, that is onto the glazing of the model. This set is the single-sided form, that is the variant for masking from the outer face; the double-sided set of the same type is a separate item. The masks are cut for the Academy kit; on a model from another maker they need not fit.
The Mitsubishi A6M was a carrier-based fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy, known by the name Zero. The Type 21 version had folding wingtips so that the aircraft would fit into the deck elevators of aircraft carriers. Its very light structure gave it considerable range and agility. What modelers most often struggle with on it is the long, heavily divided canopy, whose frames are practically impossible to paint cleanly with a brush.
First wash and degrease the glazing. Carry the mask over with tweezers, lay it down dry and press the edges with a toothpick or a blunt stick so that no paint runs under them. Spray in thin coats at right angles to the surface; a heavy coat creates a little step at the edge that shows after it is taken off. It pays to spray the shade of the frames first and only then the top color, as any bleed then blends in. Take the mask off at a shallow angle as soon as the paint is dry to the touch, not after several days.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
