Covering of the glazing for the Japanese A6M5c carrier fighter, 1:48 scale. The film is cut for the panes from both sides and a sheet for spraying the markings accompanies it.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A6M5c version was an attempt to make up what the Japanese carrier fighter lacked most: resilience. Heavier armament was added to the machine, a protective plate behind the seat and, behind the headrest, a thick pane of bulletproof glass. That one is recognized in the glazing at once, because it does not merge with the other surfaces. It sits right behind the sliding section, has a shape of its own and cannot be varnished together with the surrounding frames.
The sliding canopy holds above the cockpit in a single arc and is divided by vertical bars whose spacing changes toward the rear. With such a shape it pays to cover the glass from both sides, because the frames are varnished in a different shade inside than outside and at an angle both are visible. This item therefore carries covering for the outer as well as the inner surfaces, which is a difference from the simpler sets of the same line.
Alongside the panes a sheet with the markings waits as well. The hinomaru arises by spraying through a die-cut circle, so no outline step or glossy membrane is left behind such as a decal often leaves. The cut follows the plastic of the Hasegawa company. The box contains films exclusively.
The inner covering is laid before the canopy is joined to the fuselage, otherwise you will not get to the surfaces. It is good to mask the armored pane separately and to varnish it last of all, so that it keeps its clarity. Removal goes best with the tip of a toothpick; metal would leave a scratch on the glass. Anyone who wants the cockpit open will appreciate that the inner covering keeps the frames sharp even at close range, when the model is viewed through the slid-back glass.
