A kit of the AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter in 1:48 scale, aimed at machines in the service of the Marine Corps and the US Navy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The AH-1G Cobra was the first series-produced attack helicopter in the world. It grew out of the proven powerplant and rotor of the UH-1 helicopter, which were given a completely new, very narrow fuselage with a tandem cockpit: the gunner sits in front, the pilot behind him and somewhat higher. The narrow profile was to make the machine a smaller target. The stub wings carry pylons for armament, under the nose is a trainable gun turret and the whole machine stands on skids. The power comes from a turboshaft engine. The layout the Cobra introduced has held for attack helicopters to this day.
The package is aimed at machines in the service of the Marine Corps and the US Navy. Beside the more usual army machines this is a less commonly built rendition that stands out in a display case among Cobras. The particular machines and the color schemes are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
On a helicopter it is a cleanly seated rotor that decides: the blades have to stay in one plane and the rotor head is better left to the end and fitted only after spraying. The cockpit glazing is extensive, so it pays to mask carefully and to glue with a cement meant for clear parts, so that the surfaces do not cloud. Wash and degrease the model before painting. The particular procedure and the recommended shades are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The set is meant for modelers with experience of building helicopters in 1:48 scale. Paints, glue and other materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
