Kabuki cockpit mask AH-64 Apache A/D/E - ADVANCED level, 1:48 (New Ware)

A set of precisely cut painting masks made of kabuki paper (washi) for spraying the cockpit glazing of a model of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter in the A, D and E versions, 1:48 scale. The ADVANCED level adds the frame seals to the glazing masks, so the frames come out crisp and clean. It is not a kit but an aid for painting the extensive cockpit glazing quickly and accurately.

The real subject

The Boeing (formerly Hughes and McDonnell Douglas) AH-64 Apache is an American two-seat attack helicopter with an angular, heavily glazed cockpit. The A, D and E versions differ in avionics, sensors and engines; the cockpit has a great many flat panes, on which a mask pays off particularly well.

Usage tips

• Degrease the glazing and press the mask into the edges of the frames so that paint does not creep underneath.
• Undercoat the frames in the interior shade, then apply the outer top coat.
• Mask the flat panes of the Apache carefully, field by field.
• Remove the mask while the paint has only just flashed off, for a crisp edge.
