The 1:48 Ammunition 12.7x108 mm set is a modeling accessory, not a kit. It contains miniatures of heavy 12.7x108 mm rounds in 1:48 scale, which are stowed in boxes, in magazine containers, or placed around a scene by a machine gun, by a vehicle or by the gun bay of an aircraft.
The 12.7x108 mm round is Soviet heavy ammunition introduced in the 1930s together with the DShK heavy machine gun. In its aircraft form it was used by the Berezin UB machine gun, and later the same round was used by the NSV and Kord machine guns and by the mounted armament of vehicles and helicopters. Do not confuse it with the Western 12.7x99 mm round, that is with the .50 BMG. Both kinds of ammunition have the same bullet caliber but a different case and are not interchangeable, which applies to the modeling parts as well, because they differ in length and shape.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a cutting mat, not with nippers. Cut off any gates or supports left from production and sand the surface back. A combination of a brass shade for the case and a darker, slightly more matte tone for the bullet suits these rounds; suggest the colored bands at the tip with a fine brush at the very end. The brass looks better when a very thin brown wash is drawn over it and the excess wiped off. Glue the parts into a scene with cyanoacrylate glue.
The set is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
