About product

Arado Ar 234 B-2 First Jets 1:48 — Hobby 2000

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Arado Ar 234 B-2 jet bomber in 1:48 scale from Hobby 2000. It is a rebox of the proven Hasegawa plastic, complemented by new decals and a painting mask in the First Jets edition. The box contains light gray and clear plastic sprues and decals for several machines.

The real subject

The Arado Ar 234 was the first jet bomber in the world, a German twin-engine jet aircraft committed at the end of the Second World War. The B-2 version was the production bomber and reconnaissance aircraft; it was powered by a pair of Junkers Jumo 004 turbojets in nacelles under the wings. Its high speed made the Ar 234 hard for the Allied defenses of the day to intercept, and it was used both for reconnaissance and for bombing raids. It only reached service in limited numbers, and its use had no decisive influence on the course of the war.

Building and painting tips

The proven Hasegawa plastic builds pleasantly: separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic. Mask the glazed nose and the cockpit with the mask provided before painting. Assemble and paint the cockpit before you close up the fuselage, because the extensive glazing gives a good view inside. Lay down a primer and spray the camouflage with an airbrush in thin coats; bring out the panel lines with a fine wash, and the new decals will then define the particular machine.

Who the model is for
