Avia S-199 Sakeen — correction set 1:48 is a resin accessory from the Czech manufacturer AML that sharpens the characteristic shapes of the postwar Avia S-199 fighter in Israeli Air Force service.
Responsibility details are not available.
This resin correction set from the Czech manufacturer AML helps turn a base kit into an accurate representation of the Avia S-199 as the newly formed Israeli Air Force used it. It is not a stand-alone model: the set serves to correct and sharpen the shapes in which the S-199 differed from the original Messerschmitt Bf 109.
The Avia S-199 came into being in Czechoslovakia after the Second World War: a Junkers Jumo 211 F with a bulky propeller was installed in a Bf 109 G airframe in place of the unobtainable original engine. The combination brought peculiar takeoff and landing characteristics, which earned it the Czech nickname mezek, meaning mule. In 1948 the S-199 became the first fighter of the Israeli Air Force, where the aircraft received the Hebrew name Sakeen, meaning knife, and for all its flaws it played its part in the first battles for independence.
The correction parts call for thought: first try the fit against the kit dry, and only then cut and glue with cyanoacrylate glue. Fill the transitions between resin and plastic and sand them under an even coat of primer, because it is on the engine section that the quality of the work shows most.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
