The masking set of the highest Expert grade for building a model of the twin-engine Douglas Invader in 1:48 scale. The templates are machine cut from kabuki paper to the finished shape, so laborious measuring and cutting of tape is unnecessary. In the New Ware range the Expert grade is the most extensive option, while the basic Basic grade covers a smaller extent.
The Douglas Invader is a twin-engine aircraft with the crew compartment in the forward fuselage, which came about as an attack and light bomber machine. The original designation A-26 was changed to B-26 in 1948, which in the literature sometimes gets it confused with the unrelated Martin Marauder type. The C version is distinguished by a glazed nose, which means more glazed areas to mask than the variant with a solid nose. That is exactly why pre-cut masks pay off especially markedly on this type.
With more extensive sets it works well to proceed systematically, that is to work through one assembly at a time rather than jumping around the model. Degrease the glazing and let it dry completely, otherwise the adhesive holds unreliably. Lay the masks on dry, check the fit and only then press them on, finishing the edge with a blunt wooden point. Carry out the painting in order from the interior shades of the frames to the exterior finish, so that the frame is in the right color when seen from inside. First spray a very thin covering mist onto the edge of the mask, which will seal any micro-gaps, and only then the full coats. Remove them with a pull at an angle to the side, not straight upwards.
