An accessory for rendering the national insignia and the accompanying markings of the British Jaguar strike aircraft in the GR.1 and GR.3 versions in color. The dimensions and the spacing of the cutouts match the Kitty Hawk kit that the name of the item names.
British Jaguars went through a marked change of finishes during their service. At first they carried classic camouflage with clearly visible insignia; later the move was to a subdued gray scheme, where the insignia are deliberately low in contrast. It is precisely with the subdued scheme that the difference between sprayed and applied markings is told most quickly, because a decal on a large gray area gives away the slightest gloss. The aircraft itself was among the hardest working machines of the Royal Air Force. It served for attacks on ground targets and for tactical reconnaissance and flew from forward bases that most contemporary machines were not built for.
The procedure that has proved itself is to spray the area with the base color of the insignia, let it cure properly and only then fit the outer ring. Thin coats matter more here than elsewhere, because a circular cutout is run under more easily than a straight edge. Before taking the stencil off, wait until the paint has set but has not yet hardened completely.
