The Aires 1:48 Beaufighter TF.X cockpit set is a resin detail set that replaces the pilot's compartment of a plastic kit of the British torpedo Beaufighter. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a kit you already have.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin detail set from the Czech manufacturer Aires, intended for rebuilding the pilot's compartment of the twin-engine Bristol Beaufighter TF Mk.X in 1:48 scale. The set is not a standalone aircraft kit but an accessory that is inserted into a plastic model bought separately in place of its own cockpit. The resin castings carry considerably finer surface and three-dimensional detail than can be achieved with injection-molded plastic, so the impression of the open cockpit and of the space under the glazing is markedly lifted.
The Bristol Beaufighter was a British twin-engine heavy fighter and strike aircraft that came about on the basis of the Beaufort bomber and served from 1940. The TF Mk.X version was the torpedo strike variant of RAF Coastal Command, nicknamed the Torbeau. It was powered by Bristol Hercules radial engines tuned for flight at low altitude, and besides the cannon armament in the nose the machine carried either a torpedo or unguided rockets. It was the typical low-flying hunter of shipping over the North Sea, the Bay of Biscay and later in Asia as well. The cockpit of the Beaufighter is clearly visible under the sliding cover, which is the main reason why it pays to improve it on this type.
First wash the resin parts in warm soapy water, so that the mold release residue is removed, otherwise paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a set of modeling files, not with nippers, which crush resin. It is bonded with super glue, that is, cyanoacrylate, possibly with an accelerator; ordinary cement for polystyrene does not work here. When sanding, work wet and with respiratory protection. Dry-fit the installation into one fuselage half before painting, as it is usually necessary to take a little material off the inside of the plastic shells. Spray the cockpit with primer, use British interior green for the interior and pull the detail out with a dark wash and a dry brush.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is an accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
