1:48 Bell P-39N Airacobra landing flaps is an Eduard photo-etched set that replaces the landing flaps of the plastic model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set solves one particular problem of plastic kits: landing flaps cast in one piece with the wing and unusually thick. Photo-etched sheet in 1:48 scale will replace them with parts of the corresponding thickness, which can moreover be shown in the lowered position. A model of the aircraft itself is not part of the delivery.
The Airacobra was an American fighter of unusual layout; the engine sat in the middle of the fuselage behind the pilot and drove the propeller with a long shaft led under the floor of the cockpit. The wing thus stayed slender and clean, with flaps along the whole length between the fuselage and the ailerons. The P-39N version was lightened and received a modified powerplant, which improved its rate of climb at low and medium altitudes, where this type worked best.
Cut the plastic flaps off with a sharp saw and level the cut with a file, or the new assembly will not seat. Before gluing, anneal the sheet by drawing it briefly over a flame; it will soften and shape better. Fit the lowered flaps only at the very end; they are fragile and bend easily during further sanding. Do not forget that the lowered position also reveals the inside of the wing, which is therefore worth spraying before the assembly is closed up.
