This is a set of self-adhesive masking templates in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard, intended for a model of the twin-engine Bell UH-1N helicopter. It is not a kit: the masks are used on a model you already have. The templates are cut exactly to the shape of the cabin frames and windows, so laborious and imprecise cutting of tape falls away. The designation TFace means that the set deals with the glazing from both sides, that is from outside and from inside. That matters on helicopters, because the cabin has a large glazed area and the frames are painted differently from inside than from outside.
The Bell UH-1N is the twin-engine version of the well-known series of multi-purpose helicopters. Two engines coupled into a single powerplant brought higher performance and a greater degree of safety in the event of one engine failing than on the single-engine predecessors. The machine serves for carrying personnel and material, for liaison duties and for support activities. The glazed front section of the cabin with its pronounced framing is characteristic of this type and is among the most closely watched places on a model.
Carry the masks over to the model with the tip of a knife or with tweezers and press them down with a soft wooden stick so that the edge seats perfectly; otherwise paint will creep under. Wash and degrease the glazing beforehand, as a mask does not hold on a greasy surface. First spray the interior shade onto the inside masks, then glue the cabin up and go on with the outside painting. Apply the paint in several thin coats; one heavy coat will build a step at the edge of a mask. Take the masks off while the finish is fresh but already dry to the touch; after full curing there is a risk that a piece of the finish will come away with the mask. Remove any adhesive residue with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol.
The masks are an accessory for a model, not a kit. Neither a model nor paints are included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
