1:48 Bell X-1 SPACE is a set of the SPACE line from Eduard with 3D decals for the cockpit of a model of the rocket aircraft that was the first to break the speed of sound.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory set, not a model of an aircraft. The SPACE line is built on 3D decals, whose printed layer has a real depth: the instruments and controls stand out above the surface and have a shadow of their own when looking into the cockpit. The application is meanwhile comparably easy to that of a decal. On a research aircraft of the X-1 type, where the cockpit is cramped and crowded with measuring instruments, a worked-out interior is a fundamental part of the overall impression.
The Bell X-1 was an American rocket research aircraft built with a single aim, namely to explore the region of the speed of sound, about which there were rather guesses than data at the time. The fuselage was given a shape derived from ammunition of 12.7 mm caliber, which was known to behave stably beyond the sound barrier. The aircraft had no takeoff of its own: a heavy bomber carried it up under its fuselage and dropped it at altitude, from where the X-1 went on under the thrust of a rocket engine with four combustion chambers. On October 14, 1947 Chuck Yeager became the first man in a piloted aircraft to break the speed of sound with it. The machine named Glamorous Glennis thereby wrote itself in among the most important aircraft in history.
Fit it before the fuselage is closed up, while there is access to the cockpit. The base should be smooth, degreased and evened out with a uniform dark shade. Seat the set and press it down gently, as strong pressure flattens the raised relief. The complete make-up of the package is given on the packaging of the set.
