Pre-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:48 scale for a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the E version. The masks are stuck onto a finished coat of paint, they set out the area for the next color, and once it has dried they are removed. The extent of the sheet is not stated here. The set is intended for the Eduard kit.
Compared with the later machines, the E version had more angular shapes: straight wingtips, a markedly stepped engine cowling and a different cooling arrangement. In design it was a single-engine all-metal low-wing aircraft with a liquid-cooled inverted V12 engine. The differences in shape from the F and G versions are large enough that masks cannot be interchanged between versions.
Masking has a logical place in the sequence of a build and it pays to keep to it. First the base color goes onto the model and is left to cure. Then comes the mask and over it the second shade in thin layers. The mask is removed, the edge is checked against the light and only at the end is the surface given a clear coat. Anyone who applies the clear coat before removing the mask risks the clear being drawn over the edge, leaving a visible step once it is peeled off.
For a builder of the Bf 109 in the E version in 1:48 scale who wants the painting clean and accurate. This is an accessory for a model, not a kit.
