Double-sided Bf 109 F cockpit mask, clear parts J: pieces for the outer and the inner canopy frames for the Hasegawa kit, 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The double-sided form of the stencils for the cockpit of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 F in 1:48 scale. Besides the outer frames it also contains pieces for the inner side of the clear parts. The name gives both the target kit and the molded sprue with the transparent parts whose shape the set is cut for.
The cockpit of the Friedrich is glazed with flat panes set in fairly thick frames. When the model is viewed from above or at an angle, you look through the glass at the inner face of the frame on the opposite side. Left in a clear color it shows through and the cockpit looks empty and toy-like. A sprayed inner shade, dark gray on German machines of this period, closes the frame visually and the space behind the pilot gains depth. On the sliding middle section the effect is strongest, because it is often built hinged open.
Start inside: apply the pieces from within, spray the interior shade and let it cure. Only then fit the outer side and carry on with the primer and the camouflage. The reverse order leads to the already finished top coat being scratched during handling. Pick the small inner pieces up with a moistened brush tip; tweezers bounce them off a smooth surface.
