This set from the Czech maker Eduard is an etched (photo-etched) metal masking stencil for 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model, but an aid for modelers that makes it easier to spray the characteristic fine mottle camouflage (known as mottle or blotch) onto the sides of the fuselage and the vertical tail of the Bf 109E fighter. The motif is executed as small blotches.
You hold the etched metal sheet with its cut-out openings a little above the surface of the model and spray the paint through it with an airbrush. That gives even, repeatable blotches with a soft edge, which are hard to spray by hand. The distance of the stencil from the surface determines how crisp the edges of the blotches are. The stencil can be used repeatedly; after spraying it is enough to wipe it.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109E, nicknamed Emil, was the main German fighter from the beginning of the Second World War and from the deployment in the Battle of Britain. It was powered by a liquid-cooled V engine, and the sides of the fuselage and the fin carried the typical mottle camouflage in shades of gray-green, which this stencil imitates.
The set contains an etched masking stencil only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
