Resin wheels for the Bf 109G-6 in 1:48 scale (Eduard)

This item is an accessory to a kit, not a model. These are the main landing gear wheels cast in resin from the Brassin line by the manufacturer Eduard. Unlike photo-etched sets, here you are not working with metal but with a casting, and that is exactly why the shape of a wheel can be rendered far more faithfully than a split injection mold allows.

What it gains you on the model

On the Bf 109 the wheels are a detail in plain sight: they stand right in the line of view of the model. A resin casting brings above all a finer and crisper tire tread, a more cleanly rendered rim and a surface with no mold parting line that you would otherwise have to sand away laboriously on a plastic part. The wheels are also single castings, so there is no need for the usual gluing of two plastic halves and filling of the seam in the middle of the tread.

Use

• Separate the parts from the casting blocks with a saw or a cutting disc, never break them off: resin is hard and brittle.
• The remains of the blocks are wet-sanded; resin dust must not be inhaled, so work with a respirator and the wet method.
• Wash the finished parts in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the mold release agent residue and the sanding slurry disappear, or the paint will not hold.
• Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate); cement for plastic does not react with resin.
• Use a primer before painting; separate the rim and the tire by masking or with a careful brush.

Who the set is for

For modelers building the Bf 109G-6 in 1:48 scale who want a quick and visible upgrade without touching the structure of the model. Working with resin is a little more demanding than with plastic, mainly because of cutting the blocks off and sanding, but with wheels it is one of the easiest possible places to start.
