A set of pre-cut kabuki masks for a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 110 in the D, D-1/R-1, D-3, E and E-2 versions in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory to a kit — the masks serve for covering exactly the areas that are not to be sprayed. New Ware marks its sets with the grades BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT; EXPERT is the most extensive grade of the line. The particular list of masks in the package is given in the enclosed instructions.
A kabuki mask is a thin Japanese paper tape with a sensitive adhesive. It copies rounded surfaces exactly, holds even on bulging glazing and once removed leaves no residue of adhesive and does not tear dried paint. Against cutting from tape by hand it saves a great deal of time and above all it guarantees clean edges on the frames — and it is precisely those that most decide whether a finished model looks good.
Degrease the glazing before masking and let it dry completely. Lift the masks out with tweezers, lay them on dry and press them down with a toothpick or a wooden stick, so that they seat even in the corners. First spray a thin coat of the interior color over them, then the camouflage. Take a mask off while the paint is fresh and not fully cured, and pull it at a sharp angle. Keep the remainder of the sheet — the cut pieces come in useful on other models too.
This is not a kit. The package contains only masking templates; the model, paints and glue are not part of it. Before buying, check that the set matches your kit.
