Wheels with a rhomboid tread for the Boeing B-17F 1:48 from Eduard are the choice for a build based on photographs of a particular machine with this tire pattern.

This Eduard set brings wheels with a rhomboid tire pattern for models of the four-engined Boeing B-17F bomber in 1:48 scale. It is an upgrade to the landing gear of an existing kit - the package does not contain the aircraft itself. On large four-engined machines the wheels are a conspicuous feature, so an investment in a faithful tread shows in the result at once.
B-17F bombers flew from British bases to targets deep inside Germany, and their maintenance ran at a relentless field pace. That is exactly why tires from different suppliers with different tread patterns could easily end up on one machine - the rhomboid is among the versions caught in period photographs. Before building a particular machine it therefore pays to go through the pictures and choose the matching type; a correctly chosen tread is the detail that always pleases a specialist and gives the build the stamp of careful research.
Once the wheels are on the gear legs, check that the whole model stands upright. Paint the tires matte and the hubs semi-matte, and work a brownish gray wash into the recesses of the tread to imitate service grime. A light dusting with a pale pigment near the contact patch suggests a machine that has just come back from a mission over the continent.
