About product

Painting masks 1:48 for the British light utility car, Hauler

This item is not a kit but an accessory for a model you already have part built. It holds pre-cut painting masks for the British light utility car in 1:48 scale. They are made by the Czech brand Hauler, long focused on aftermarket accessories for plastic modelers. The masks are cut for the Tamiya kit.

What the masks change in the result

In small scales the impression a finished model makes is decided by the sharpness of the edges between the paint and the glass. Tape cut by hand will never meet exactly on rounded frames; a step arises or the paint gets under the edge. A ready-made mask has a shape taken straight from the part, so the frame stays evenly wide all the way round and the glass clean. On vehicles with a canvas roof and flat glazing there is moreover no need to work out where to run the cut in a corner.

Procedure and small tricks

Wash and degrease the parts before masking, best in lukewarm water with detergent, and let them dry properly. Carry the mask over with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, never with your fingers, as grease from the skin reduces the grip. Once it is stuck down, go over the edges with a wooden stick. It pays to spray the glazing with the shade of the interior first and only then with the outer finish, so that the frame does not show through from inside. If you are spraying several coats and shades, give them a long enough pause between; fresh paint is the easiest to pull off with a mask. Remove the remains of adhesive after taking the mask off carefully with an ink eraser or a wooden stick, not with a solvent.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the British light utility car in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who want clean glazing with no paint running underneath
  • Those who build in larger batches and save time
  • Airbrush builders working with several shades on one part

The set is an accessory for a kit. The model and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a set of painting masks only; the kit itself you obtain separately.

Yes, wash them in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry. On a greasy surface a mask will not hold and the paint runs underneath.

Carefully with an ink eraser or a wooden stick. We do not recommend using a solvent; it would damage the varnish and the glass alike.

It is meant for the Tamiya kit.
