C-45 air intakes 1:48 (Aires/Quickboost)

This set from the aircraft aftermarket manufacturer Aires/Quickboost is a resin replacement for the air intakes of a model of the twin-engine C-45 in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane kit but a detail accessory that replaces the plastic air intakes from the base kit with more finely cast parts with a more faithful depth and walls. Open air intakes read more realistically than shallow plastic suggestions.

The real subject

The Beechcraft C-45 (derived from the Model 18) was an American twin-engine light transport and liaison aircraft, also widely used for training. The air intakes on the engine nacelles are among the clearly visible details of the front of the aircraft.

Building and painting tips

First wash the mold release residue off the resin part, carefully cut off the casting block and sand the surface with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). We recommend lightening or, conversely, darkening the inside of the intakes depending on the effect you want; the surroundings can be lightly weathered.
