The C-47 Skytrain is the military counterpart of the Douglas DC-3 airliner. During the Second World War it carried cargo and paratroopers, towed gliders and became one of the most widespread transport aircraft of all. It stayed in service for decades and a number of examples still fly today in civil colors. Modelers have taken to it among other things for the enormous number of possible color schemes and markings.
On this type the landing gear carries a fairly heavy model, so check that the wheels sit level and the aircraft does not stand crooked. An exposed hub is a rewarding place for shading, because metal surfaces only come out once you separate them in color from the matte rubber. Apply dust and mud sparingly so that the detail you have just gained is not lost under the patina. It pays to work in thin coats and to step back from time to time.
