The GasPatch Clerget 9B Version 1 (1:48) is a resin 3D-printed kit of a rotary aircraft engine from the period of the First World War, intended as a detail accessory for models of period aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a separate, highly detailed model of the Clerget 9B nine-cylinder rotary aircraft engine in 1:48. The set is made by the modern technology of 3D printing from photopolymer resin, so it faithfully captures the cylinders, the valve gear and the fine plumbing. It is not a model of an aircraft but a detail accessory with which you open up the cowling of the engine section and reveal the powerplant.
The Clerget 9B was a French nine-cylinder rotary engine in which the whole block of cylinders turned around a fixed crankshaft while running. It was among the most widespread powerplants of Allied fighters of the First World War and powered a number of legendary biplanes and triplanes. A characteristic feature of rotary engines was air cooling and the particular lubrication with castor oil.
First wash the print resin residue off the parts and carefully separate them from the print supports. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Use respiratory protection when sanding. An effective result comes from a combination of metallic shades, a dark wash into the recesses and fine accenting of the edges with a dry brush; copper and brass accents on the plumbing bring the engine to life.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The glue, the paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
