1:48 Concrete Hedgehog - WWII Anti-tank Barrier (2 pcs.) is two castings of a concrete anti-tank barrier in 1:48 scale from CMK. It is a scenic accessory, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory from the Czech maker CMK for builders of dioramas. According to the name these are two pieces of a concrete anti-tank obstacle in 1:48 scale. In this scale the barrier already has enough mass to work as the main element of a small scene, because a figure or a light vehicle set beside it makes it clear how large an obstacle it was.
Static anti-tank obstacles were built during the Second World War everywhere it was necessary to prevent armored equipment from passing and there was neither time nor material for more elaborate fortification. Besides the well known steel hedgehog, concrete barriers were used, which were cast in large numbers and placed on approach roads, on coastlines, by bridges and in city roadblocks. Against equipment they worked mainly by forcing it to slow down, to go around or to bunch up in places that anti-tank fire was trained on. For a modeler they are rewarding precisely because they show readably in a scene where the fighting went.
Before painting, wash the castings, cut off the remains from casting and even the surfaces out with abrasive paper. Painting has the same logic as with real concrete, because a uniform gray looks flat, so after the base add irregular lighter and darker patches, a weak dark wash into the edges and joints, and finally dust or mud according to the setting. If you sink the lower part of the barrier into the terrain and lay a little of the base material around it, it will stop looking as though it were merely resting on the surface.
This is an accessory set, not a kit of a model. It is supplied unpainted and without a base.
