A decal sheet from the manufacturer Xtradecal in 1:48 scale devoted to the early version of the American Curtiss P-40B fighter. This is the first part of a line; the further part is a separate product with its own content. The sheet contains markings for a finished painted model; the plastic base, the paints and the glue are not part of it.
The P-40 was a single-engined fighter with the Allison V-1710 V12 engine, which gave the type its characteristic slim nose with the radiator beneath it. The P-40B version was among the early forms: it had a pair of larger-caliber machine guns in the forward fuselage, supplementary armament in the wing, armor protection for the pilot and partly self-sealing fuel tanks. The designation of the type differed by user: in the Royal Air Force the early versions were used under the name Tomahawk, while the US Army Air Forces used the name Warhawk for the whole P-40 family. The machines served in several theaters, among them North Africa and Asia. We keep the description factual and technical.
The most common cause of silvering decals is not bad varnish but grease. After sanding and handling, fingerprints and fine dust remain on the model, the decal then does not seat over its whole area and air is trapped under the film. Before laying it down, therefore, wipe the area with a cloth dampened in clean water with a drop of detergent, rinse it and let it dry. Always use clean lukewarm water for soaking, and not water in which previous decals have already floated, because remains of adhesive in it leave matte smears once dry.
This is a standalone decal sheet, that is an accessory for a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
