A shaped masking set for a model of the Aichi D3A1 Val in 1:48 scale. The elements are applied to the model before spraying and lifted once the paint has dried.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Aichi D3A1, known to the Allies as Val, was a Japanese carrier-borne dive bomber of the beginning of the war in the Pacific. You can recognize it by the fixed landing gear with teardrop wheel fairings, the elliptical wings and the long glazed cockpit for a crew of two.
Masking elements in 1:48 scale shaped to this type. They are peeled off the backing sheet and laid on the model, so there is no need to cut tape laboriously and join it on curves. Which surfaces the set covers is given in the manufacturer's instructions, so go through the contents before painting.
The masks belong on the model before spraying, not on a finished coat. The surface has to be dry, clean and degreased, otherwise the edge of the mask lifts and paint creeps under it.
The set suits a modeler who is building the D3A1 in 1:48 scale and wants the boundaries of the spraying straight without slow masking by hand. The masks are shaped to a particular kit, so compare beforehand which kit you have at home. This is an accessory to a model: the kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
