Masks for spraying the Japanese national insignia without a white outline onto a D3A1 Val model in 1:48 scale. The insignia is sprayed directly onto the surface of the model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Aichi D3A1 Val was a Japanese carrier-borne dive bomber with fixed landing gear and a crew of two, committed in the first years of the war in the Pacific. Its large lifting surfaces offer plenty of room for prominent national insignia, which draw a lot of attention on a model in 1:48 scale.
Masks for spraying the Japanese national insignia in 1:48 scale, in the rendition without a white outline. The insignia therefore comes about not by applying a decal but by spraying paint through a mask. How many insignia and in what sizes the set contains is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
A sprayed insignia lies in one plane with the finish, so no glossy edge or silvering of the kind that can accompany a decal on a matte surface appears on it. The order of the steps matters more here than the paint itself.
It suits a modeler who wants the insignia sharp and without the visible film of a decal, and also anyone who plans to scuff and age the model, because a sprayed insignia takes sanding and local touching up better than a decal. This is an accessory to a model: the kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
